Department Of Botany

About the Department:

Department of Botany was established in 1972 with aim to provide best and affordable education to all rural people in plant science. During the first year of college only a few students were enrolled later students’ strength increase gradually every year. Shri B. N. Kulkarni was the first faculty member of the Department then Dr. V. G. BAN (2008) and Dr. S. D. NAGPURNE (2009), Dr NJM REDDY (2020), Formerly Principal, were succession faculty served in the department. The students got the benefit of subject knowledge by their excellent teaching & guidance. As associated branch of Botany Vocational course seed technology was introduced in 1997 for five years only under UGC scheme. The main intension of the course was to provide knowledge to the students in seed and agriculture as students coming from agriculture background family Kandhar is a potential area to study such course because of crop field. Dr. K M SHENDGE, Assistant professor of Botany Joined in the department in 2012 and later Mr. M.M. PETHKAR & Dr D H INGLE, Assistant Professor are actively engaged in research. Botanical tours are arranging twice in year one long tour Kodaicanal, Mahabaleshwar as well as short tour to acquire practical knowledge of plant in different seasons and geographically different area to train the student excellence in the plant science, familiar of crop plants and their relation with surrounding environment Post graduation in Botany introduced in 1991 with intake of 25 seats with plant pathology as specialization. Alumni of the department were serving in various institutions as assistant Professor, Principals, Teachers and other Govt. Departments obliviously this credit goes to the institute. Every year all 26th July we celebrate Mukthai death anniversary, on this occasion, on behalf of Department exercise tree plantation programme as environmental awareness and impact of forest for biodiversity, National Science day on 28th Feb. observe every year to enlight the recent developments in science and technology, our students also encouraged by involving in extracurricular activities like NSS, NCC, Volunteers. Dr. K M SHENDGE Delivered speeches in village for formers on use of Biofertilizers, importance of Crop rotation in Plant Disease Management and Environmental awareness.
