Department of Sociology

Department of Sociology was established in 1959 and P.G. started in 2005. The Department continuously strives for the enrichment of socio-cultural and developing the aesthetics sense of the students. Since the students come from the far-flung, hilly, remote and rural area and they belong to the economically backward region, it is a big challenge for the department in developing their sociological approaches to understand the changing scenario of global phenomenon and practical issues in sociological study. The department is ambitious to enrich the legacy of imparting sociological education. The department of sociology runs the B. A. Sociology and M. A. Sociology programmes. Program objective is to enable the learners to explore the vision to understand sociological perspectives thinkers and the origin of sociology. The department of sociology focuses on the developing student’s ability of appreciating critical and fact phenomenon. The department also believes in developing students’ vision towards society. Developing sociological understanding is the need of modern world. The department aims at teaching sociological perspectives, research, methodology used in sociological research. The Department of sociology is facilitating sociological theories to students as functionalism, Neo-functional, symbolic interactions and conflict theory etc. The department is focusing on the classical and modern sociological understanding. The department assures that students have grown as capable individual who can scope with adversity of their life and their career in sociology. The department tries to internalize the core human values, humanity which has been disseminated by our founder and administrator Dr. Bhai Keshavrao Dhondge like patriotism. Humanism (giving dignified treatment to all irrespective of their religior, caste, creed, language etc.)
