Department Of English
Department of English was established in 1959 with the inception of the institution itself. It continuously strives for the enrichment of the language and developing the aesthetic sense of the students. Since the students come from the hilly areas and they belong to the economically backward region it is a big challenge for the department in developing their English language. Along with developing language the department also focuses on developing their ability of appreciating literature in true sense. The department also believes that developing communication is the need of the hour, therefore we teach them communication skills along with other necessary soft skills like email writing, job application, resume writing, report writing, so on and so forth. We ensure that students of the department grow as capable individuals who can cope with adversities of the life and career.

Program Specific Objectives
- To enable the learners to communicate in English through close reading of select literary texts.
- To develop the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and representing by conducting classroom activities prescribed in the curriculum.
- To enable the learners to make the use of English language for shaping and making meaning according to purpose, audience and the context.
- To train the learners think in ways that are imaginative, creative, interpretive and critical.
- To help the learners for acquiring ways of expressing themselves and their relationships with others and their world.
- To induce the learners for reflecting on their learning through their study of English.
Program Specific Outcomes
- Through responding to and composing a wide range of texts, the learners will begin to use the English language in the best possible manner.
- Through the close study of texts, students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in order to communicate effectively in English.
- Learners will value and appreciate the importance of the English language as a key to learning.
- Learners will gain the personal enrichment from study of literary pieces in English.
- Learners will acquire ability to communicate through oral and written texts.
